I brought up a parallel between Satre's notion of willing the emotions and Martha Nussbaum's theory of emotion and intellect (emotions as stemming from belief) today in my Philosophy, Literature, and Music course. It led to a very interesting discussion.

We actually started out with a little Derrida discussion and we're doing Kierkegaard right now (Fear and Trembling), Nietzche (Birth of Tragedy), Thomas Mann (both Dr Faustus and Magic Mountain), Christa Wolf (Cassandra), Mozart (Don Giovanni), and Wagner (all of the the rings), as well as some Mozart and Shubert. At the end of the class were going to see the Valkyrie at the LA opera.
So it's mostly a class to investigate the interdisciplinary borders between the three subjects through case studies. The students picked most of the texts and lead classes. It's pretty awesome.
Also (thought you might be happy about this), I'm reading Foucault, Derrida, and/or Kristeva in the rest of my classes. I'm pretty stoked. Will miss Existentialism though!
